Bought my first ever iPhone Pro Models
Why I bought my first iPhone Pro Max after 10 years of using iPhones, and the two behavioural changes that matter more than the device itself.
I have been an iPhone user for almost a decade, but I have never owned a Pro model.
Like many Indian buyers, I usually picked up the previous year's model and saved the difference. A phone, for me, has always been a tool, not something to show off.
This time, however, I decided to buy the latest iPhone Pro Max.
What makes this purchase different is not the device itself, but the mindset behind it.
Over the years, I developed a habit of upgrading phones too frequently. Most of the devices I owned never stayed with me for more than a year. The iPhone 16 Plus was the exception. I held on to it longer, and it is still in excellent condition, now being used by my wife.
With the Pro Max, I am making two commitments.
First, no more annual upgrades. I intend to keep this device for at least the next three years.
Second, I want to treat it exactly as what it is, a tool. Not an antique to be protected at all costs, and not a status symbol to be admired. A tool that should be used, enjoyed, and eventually replaced when its job is done.
The only decision left is AppleCare+.
I am still doing my research, but considering the cost of the device and the fact that I plan to keep it for the long haul, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss protection feels less like an expense and more like insurance for peace of mind.
Sometimes the upgrade is not the device. It's the behaviour that comes with it.
